Dental Council website CLICK HERE
All
UK
trained dentists (must be trained in the UK, NOT registered only) are
eligible to register to practice in
Australia
without sitting the ADC exams. The board only needs to be contacted if seeking
to migrate to
Australia
. However if candidates are looking for short-term employment, applications
can be made directly to the dental board in the state seeking employment.
Thereafter, It is at the discretion of the state dental board to accept qualifications
and current registration.
This assessment is mandatory and a requirement before you can apply for work
in Australia.
Visas:
International Dentists looking to come to
Australia for work will need a visa. New Zealand Dentists can enter Australia
and work on their NZ passport. For all other nationalities, you will need a visa.
The most common are:
1. The working holiday visa for
those under the age of 31 and from either Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus,
Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Republic of Ireland,
Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and
United Kingdom. If you from one of these countries you are eligible for this
visa.
2. Sponsored working visa - if
you not from one of the above countries or are over the age of 30, then you need
an "Employer Sponsor" to provide a visa for you to enter and work in
Australia. First, you need to undertake the qualification assessment. When this
is completed, contact us and we can try and find a sponsor for you.
Note: This visa ties you to your sponsor, it does not allow you to travel
and change employment in Australia on arrival. Most Australian employers will
usually require a contract length of around 2 years to offer a visa to
international candidates under sponsorship.

Dental State Registration:
Each Australian state has it's own
Dental Registration Board. Dentists MUST be registered with the board in
the state they intend to work before starting employment. For
international applicants, you will be required to undertake the Australian
Dental Council (ADC) assessment before you can apply for State Board
Registration as these documents will be required. For Australian and NZ trained
Dentists, you can apply directly to the relevant state board using your
qualifications. Links to the State Dental Boards are listed below.
