United Kingdom - Professional Registration
Health Professions Council -HPC
To be eligible to work in the UK and register in
your profession you need to undertake a qualifications assessment with the
Health Professions Council in the UK. This is often the longest part of the
process for the UK and involves a fair degree of paperwork. Needless to say,
some applicants can find it quite tedious. However, there are no shortcuts, and
you must go down this route.
Application forms for the HPC for International
Qualified Applicants (Aussies and Kiwis) can be downloaded from their site HERE
We suggest you allow around 4
months as a minimum for this process to be completed. It is the first
thing you should begin to undertake in the UK process.
Please take careful note of the application forms
and documents required and read all information carefully. Incorrect
applications or applications with missing documents have been returned to some
applicants in the mail, this can set your departure back by a couple of months.
Q: Can I get
a job in the UK if i am not HPC registered?
A: The
answer to this is generally no. Certainly if you intend on doing locum work in
the UK on a working holiday visa you will need this first. Employers in the UK
can check the HPC register to see if your name is there. If your name does not
appear, then you will not be considered for a role.
Only in certain circumstances
where you might be taking a long term or permanent contract might an employer
make you a temporary offer pending your registration coming through. But, you
still can't work until you have this completed.
