Australian
Medical
Locums
Allied
Health Employment has a dedicated locum division specialising only in the
placement of Doctors around Australia in both the Private and Public sectors.
Our consulting team has specific industry experience and a wide base of contacts
ensuring you have access to the largest possible up to date vacancy list. It is
our role to match you to employment that meets your specific requirements.
Locum
work offers flexibility, increases in remuneration and the chance
to travel.
In
most cases, you will be employed directly by the "Host" facility or
hospital/practice or if you have your own ABN, you can invoice them directly.
Allied Health Employment does not employ locum staff directly however, it is our
position as your agent to negotiate on your behalf the best possible package.
Many
locum roles have free accommodation and travel supplied, this is certainly the
case for hospitals in country regions and not so common for metropolitan locum
roles.
Registration:
if you have registration to practice in one Australian State then under the
mutual recognition act you can transfer this to another state. Please note: it
can take up to 2 weeks for this to be processed so if you are thinking about
heading interstate, then you should consider this time frame.
Medicare:
You will need a Medicare number for each physical location that you
undertake employment, this is a requirement for the Health
Insurance Commission applications can be downloaded from their website or
contact us. It is an offence to use another Practitioners Medicare Number.
Applications take around 2 weeks and can be backdated for those starting
work sooner.
Professional
Indemnity Insurance: We recommend that as a Practitioner, you have your own
insurance, if you are working for a Government Hospital, you will be covered by
them, this is not the case in the Private Sector or if you are a
Contractor. In most cases, the site of your prospective employment will
demand to see your current insurance cover at the time of application.
Email
lists: Registered practitioners can join our email list to be contacted
weekly with the latest employment opportunites in their field, this way you can
be sure to be up to date with what is being offered. We will also be in regular
contact with you via the telephone and you can also call us on our free call
number 1800 059 790 from within Australia.
