Q. What is a visa? 

A. "An endorsement made on a passport by the proper authorities denoting that it has been examined and that the bearer may proceed."

Just as people coming to work in Australia and New Zealand require prior government permission or visas to enter and work here, the same applies for those wishing to work in the UK. If you turn up to the UK with your Aussie or NZ passport without a pre arranged working visa stamped into it, then you will not be able to work! Make sure you arrange your visa before you go. Visas: There are 2 main types of visas for the UK.

1. The Working Holiday Visa for those under the age of 31 who possess either an Australian or New Zealand passport. This visa allows you to enter the UK for a period of 2 years and undertake employment for a period of 12 months in total over this time. The visa is flexible and allows you to undertake locum work. 2. Ancestry Visa - This visa is for those with recent UK Ancestry. It will allow you to enter and work in the UK in any capacity for up to 5 years.

You will qualify for this visa if you can show that:

• you are a Commonwealth citizen
• you are aged 17 or over
• you have a grandparent who was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Mann
• you have a grandparent that was born in what is now the Republic of Ireland prior to 31 March 1922 (see note below)
• you are able to work and intend to do so in the UK
• you can support yourself and any dependants, and live without needing any help from public funds

This visa is also renewable and it allows you to take with you your spouse, children under the age of 18 years and eligible partner. For more details on this visa or to apply CLICK HERE
