Sonographers in Australia must be registered with the ASAR ( Australian Sonography Accreditation Register) in Australia in order to practise Ultrasound and search for jobs. Accredited Sonographers are those that have passed a recognised course in Australia or have registered as a student in a recognised training program.
For overseas Ultrasound professionals, you will need to apply for Accreditation with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry in order to gain a registry number and then a job. This is a two teired processs involving an assessment of your Ultrasound skills as well as your training program and course curriculum to assess whether it meets the Australian standrads. Once overseas trained Sonographers have gained accreditation, we can assist them in employment opportunities.

To work in Australia as a Sonographer, you will need a working visa. It is not feasble to search for a job in Australia in Ultrasound unless you have a valid working visa or needing a sponsor.
For those Sonographers from Commonwealth countries that meet the Working Holiday visa requirement and you are under the age of 31, you can gain a 12 month working holiday visa that will allow you to work as a Sonographer in Australia over this time. The rules are that you can only work for the one employer for a period of 6 months. Of course, you will also have to have accreditation as a Sonographer as outlined above.
For Sonographers that are seeking a sponsored working visa for Australia, we can also assist. The sponsored working visa for Sonographers in the subclass 457 visa. This means that an Ultrasound employer can sponsor you into Australia to work as a Sonographer at their site for a period of 3 months to 2 years. The most common length of contract for Sonographers is one to two years. Seldom do we find Ultrasound employers willing to visa sponsor Sonographers for less than six months to Australia. This is beacuse the cost for Ultrasound employers to arrange a visa is expensive. Sonographers also need to show flexibility on their location of employment when seeking an Ultraound 457 visa. Under Australian immigration guidelines, an Ultrasound employer can only sponsor a Sonographer after they have advertised their roles to local applicants and cannot source a Sonographer within Australia. This means that Ultrasound jobs in the most desireable locations are often taken by local Australian Sonographers.
